Modern slavery and human trafficking statement

Policy statement

This statement is made by Acumension Ltd pursuant to the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Acumension is a law firm authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority of England and Wales (SRA No: 615035).

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It can take various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or for commercial gain.

Acumension has a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery and we are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere within our own business or in any of our supply chains.

We are committed to ensuring there is transparency in our business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains, consistent with our obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We expect the same high standard from all contractors, suppliers and other partners we work with.

Our responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 are reflected in our firm’s policies and in our risk assessments of our own business and that of our clients and suppliers.

• We adopt industry best practice and are legally compliant in all our recruitment and employment processes, and we have confidence that modern slavery is not and will not take place within our business;

• We adopt robust checks to ensure that modern slavery is not present in our supply chain;

• We are open to an approach from any employee, contractor, supplier or any third party who may have any cause to raise a concern about modern slavery; and

• We will treat any report of apparent or suspected modern slavery seriously and will take appropriate action.

Responsibility for this policy

The Acumension Board of Directors has overall responsibility for ensuring this policy complies with our legal and ethical obligations, and that these are complied with by all those under our control.

This policy applies to all persons working for us or on our behalf in any capacity, including employees at all levels, directors, agency workers, contractors, external consultants, third-party representatives and partner organisations.

Acumension has taken steps to evaluate the nature and extent of its exposure to the risk of modern slavery occurring in its supply chain. We do not consider that we operate in high-risk sectors or areas.

A number of our suppliers are regulated individuals or organisations in their own right who are consequently required to abide by their own codes of professional conduct, e.g. the Bar Council.

Acumension does not tolerate slavery and human trafficking within its supply chains and would immediately seek to terminate its relationship with a supplier where evidence of a failure to comply with these principles was discovered.

This statement will be reviewed annually and made available on our website.
